London Transport 2020 Where are we now? London's tube and train systems are suffering from decades of under-investment. The Underground lines now transporting 3 million passengers daily are in the process of being privatised. Travel ticket prices in London are higher compared to other European cities. Heavy investment into the bus system is paying off with more modern buses, quicker commutes and passenger numbers rising 17% over the last 3 years alone. The introduction of the congestion charge in 2003 dramatically reduced traffic jams. Cycling in London is for the suicidal. What are the authorities planning for the future? London Authority is planning further investment into buses, DLR and trams. The privatisation of London Underground is meant to lead to modernisation and better customer service - mobile phones will work underground. Crossrail, a £10bn tunnel linking west with east London transporting 200,000 passengers daily, will relieve the tube system, but will have to cope with a rising London population and won't be ready before 2014 or so. The congestion charge zone is likely to expand beyond its current boundary. How are government plans going to affect Euronet members?
